I am new to my 64 C10, and have been looking at making it safe for the wife to drive and race in the local street class. I have asked a few questions so far on a couple of different forums, and it seems the 73-87 1/2 ton chevy is a good candidate for a crossmember swap. A little wider (not sure yet how much), 5 lug instead of 6, and drill a couple of holes to bolt through. Doesn't sound too bad...?
I just lucked into a '79, 1/2 ton parts truck. I'm taking the front crossmember with brakes and suspension, power booster, master cylinder, prop. valve, steering box and pump, and the guy is giving me the rear end. It will be a while until I get the '64 into the garage, as well as the parts from the '79. But, I will take pictures of the process and post here when I get started. Hopefully it is as easy as everyone says it is...
