So Denny, the bar is not producing the sway, it trying to minimize the sway, an anti-sway bar, I'd say.
I have read long-winded arguments regarding the difference between (anti-)sway bars, front end stabilizers, and steering stabilizers. I find those arguments as fruitless as arguing the right shade of 216/235 engine gray (blue-gray; gray-blue; etc).
Chevrolet called it a Stabilizer (used on both models of Suburbans) in the 1954 Truck Data Book - that is good enough for me (then I do not have to worry about the foolishness of buying something for a sway bar).
