The point gap was a long shot but sometimes when the rubbing block wears down the points barely break & can cause all sorts of weird problems, but with elec. ignition that is not the case. A vacuum/ pressure gauge is a handy tool to have especially with dual carbs. They are not expensive. If you get a reading you can tell if excessive pressure is the problem. Like Forme says it could be a float problem. First determine if in fact it is flooding like I described in the first answer.
