The trans pattern switched in '47. The existing trans will work fine. You will need a V8 bellhousing ('55-'59) or a V8 or 6 cylinder bellhousing ('63-'72) in order to use the 292 in a '59. Front mounts will have to be fabricated. You will lose the stomp starter.
