NM51, I don't think a 292 will bolt to his original 216 bellhousing. A 235 or 261 will. Lots of 235's still out there. Parts for repair/rebuild and high perf. are readily available. Bolt-in with few snags. Jim Carter and others have rebuilts ready to go. Get you some catalogs or visit the websites of some of the vendors listed in the links section of this site.
Why not keep your 216? They are quite rebuildable and dependable if the rpm's are kept down. Lots of vintage custom speed parts and stuff available for them. Looks cool! The GMC 6's like a 270 or 302 are good candidates for a hot rod 6. Practically indestructable though the 302's are harder to find. Lots of discussion on related topics in these forums. Look in the Hi-Po forum and run some searches. Good luck. smile
