Just to be sure that responders are going to give info pertinent for your truck, you should put your truck year/size in your profile and in your post.

Assuming you are referring to a torque-tube 47-55 truck, you do indeed need seals at three places around the u-joint ball/bell. This is described in the transmission section of the Shop Manual.
