I have never used a 187, but I'm sure it does what they claim it to do. I still like my 140 at the house because I can plug it in anywhere. If you forsee welding anything 1/4" you will want a 220 welder. I have a 50 amp plug at the breaker box at my house just in case I want to bring a heavier welder home, but I have never found anything on my old cars and pickups that I didn't feel comfortable welding with my 140. I don't think there is such a thing as one universal welder for everything. I guess that's why I have 7 or 8 of them out at my shop.
