For $2,100 plus what that mechanic would charge you to install the re-manufactured 235 you can build a very nice chevy 350 at home and put it in yourself, and enjoy the process. As far as that goes, you could rebuild your 235 yourself and put it in for that same ammount, or less.

What other engine came with your 61? If you are going to replace the engine and keep it classic, try a 261- It'll bolt right in and will give you lots more torque and HP.
