New to Stovebolt.com so I wanted to share the story behind me getting my '59.
It actually started 2 years ago when I saw an ad in the local Trucker Trader Magazine. I was actually looking through it for parts for my '73 Silverado when I came upon the fateful page.
Not sure what it was a t first but I knew I had to have her.
So I called the number and inquired if it was still available. Sure enough it was and it was only 2 hours West of where I lived at the time(London, ON).
The best part about was that I was able to basically pay-as-you-go with the guy selling it.
So I drive down to LaSalle, ON with a good friend that has a helluva lot more knowledge with older vehicles than I and we have a look.
Dusty looked under it, over it and everywhere in between and gave me the "thumbs up". So I give the gentleman the $500 that I brought down with me and we agree that I'll pay him $200 a week until it was paid off. With the total being $4500 I had a little ways to go.
Some of you may say I paid too much for it after you see the pictures but so be it. I had my heart set on it and that was that. So what realistically should've taken a little over a year to pay off turned into 2 years. Lay offs, buying a house, etc. happened in between actually bringing the truck home.
It worked out well because at the time of first seeing her I didn't have a driveway to keep her out of the elements while I worked away at her.
Other than that there is not much more to say. Except for the goal of having it back on the road for Mid March-Early April 2010.
I'm sure over the next few months I'll be posting many a topic for advice/information.
This is my first project of this magnitude and I am truly stoked that after many a night she is finally at home where she belongs.
