I don't know the answer to this question, but I would say that some four-wheel-drive vehicles act like they have different ratios at each end.
What I mean by that is once the transfer case is engaged suddenly they are hard to steer and feel heavier in the way they respond.
I won't name names, but GM did build every truck I've ever owned including the newest one, which is a '91. That truck is awful in four-wheel.
I'd suggest at least browsing some four-wheel-drive forums to see what they have to say.
