I think this was a high-mountain California truck, the door bottoms and cab corners were/are shot. Maybe slinging snow off the windshield?
I checked it out, it appeared to be a compound problem.
The toggle that goes through the hole in the firewall/cowl is made of two pieces that sandwich a ballstud on the linkage from the wiper. The two pieces are brazed together with solder, and that solder had cracked, allowing the two pieces to move around slightly. A quick tack weld fixed that, hopefully.
Next, the end of the linkage was bent at about a 45 degree angle. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be like that, but it didn't seem logical to me so I straightened it out.
Seems to be working alright now, but the heavy downpour stopped last night.
