Ok I searched and looked at probabbly 100 or so "engine identification posts." For some reason none of the info seems to pertain to the engine I have. I was told it might be a chevy 235 261 250 or even a 292 inline?? The engine I have has a number which is pressed or stamped into the block on a flat surface back by the starter area passenger side. that number is VM440160AL. there are no other numbers cast or stamped on the passenger side of the engine that I could find!! Nothing behind or any where near the distributer.
The push rod cover is a one piece design that is aprox 4" tallthe length of the block held on by 4 bolts. The distributer is located toward the front of the engine. The oil filter (a fram spin on)is located under the distributer.The dip stick is located on the drivers side of the engine.
The valve or rocker cover has two center bolts holding it down.
On each side of the block directly across from each other near the bottom there are three holes with raised castings connecting in a "V" pattern. close to the top rear hole On the passenger side there is a threaded plug. (looks like a dip stick could have been there or another sending unit?) On the drivers side directly under the "V" is a casting number of EPB 6015 H I cant seem to find any casting numbers on the head either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way this engine was istalled years ago in a 1968 or 69 Checker Aero Bus limo.... It sat in the junk yard for over 20 years. if fired up after i was able to get some fuel to it!!!
