David..I used the Lokar set-up as well, if you're referring to the cables from the crossbar to the rear brakes,I put a light smear of copper grease on the threads.
I am unsure what you mean by
threading through a metal bracket,do you mean the original chassis brackets for the conduits?
If so,as I said I used a little grease.

As far as I'm aware,the main adjustment is made at the clevis end.
I do agree though,the instructions are a little 'sketchy'
