I just joined a few days ago so I can get advice on what to do with my truck... I'm working on a '66 Chevy I picked up a few months ago as a parts truck. My dad got a '66 half ton from my great uncle's back 40 a few years ago and hasn't touched it since (he's only interested in motorcycles). So this spring I decided if he wasn't going to fix her up, I would. His truck was almost all complete, and was cradling a 292 with a saginaw 3 speed overdrive trans, but needed a lot of new metal etc. So I started browsing craigslist and found an ad for '66 body metal. Turned out the guy had *almost* the entire truck, and the body was for the most part in decent condition. He told me it was his old pull truck and would sell it as parts or whole. I ended up getting the truck and a few spare parts for $250! When I got it home, I decided it would be foolish to strip everything off of my truck to put it on dads, since mine was in better shape... so I began fixing on mine instead. Considering the good shape of the body, the extent of rust damage on the floor was suprising. I had to replace both front cab supports, modify both rear cab mounts, and I'm in the process of replacing a lot of the floor. Once I got the cab supported decently, I decided to start on the mechanics so it can go in and out of our shop under it's own power. The truck had an sm420 trans, and v8 mounts (no engine), but I swapped the mounts out and swung dads 292 in and we got it running. Unfortunately about 100 yards down the road my clutch went out... but as I get more money available (college=eternally broke) I'm going to buy a new clutch, and a few other parts I need. It's become somewhat of a father-son project, and it's been really fun to work on. If anyone has any tips/tricks or useful info that could help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
