I admit I am really new to this world of old trucks. I do have a pedigree though since I assembled a couple 57's about 20 years ago. That was simply to gain transportation though....now is different.

I just purchased a 54 chev 3/4 ton long box. The old owner has started what I want to finsh. The old owner told me he replaced the original engine with a 235 from a '55. He explained it was about 1" longer than the old motor and he had to get a thinner fan pulley to keep the fan out of the rad. So here's the question...

What motor did the truck have and what does it have now? Are they different? How so? Is there any good reason to start searching for a 'proper' 54 engine?

'57 3200 with V8 and not much else.
