definitely somethings wrong .... sounds like the motor is shot or bearings rotten - the hum will be the motor
trying to turn, may burn some wires if you let it go long - the rattle may be a loose fan on the shaft or the bad bearings .... you need to get in there and take it apart, clean it up good [might be fulla rat nest], check the motor, rebuild it if necessary
