I took out the water pump out of my '56 engine 235 inline 6 because I suspected that this was where the water leak was coming from. There's a lot of rust around the bottom hole which probably means it had been leaking for awhile. The engine hasn't been fired up for almost 4 years except for a brief few minutes in early and mid 2006 inside a convention center. Reasons are you can't have more than 1/2 gallon of fuel in the tank inside a convention hall and it doesn't have an exhaust pipe or muffler.
After taken out the water pump I can see a lot of rust attached to the center wall of the block. Can this be cleaned without taking the engine apart? Is there a way to loosen up this rust and flushing it out?
