you'll need your original shift setup down to the box on the lower column, the 55/6 column is a bit longer than the 57-9 so the upper rod is longer, but from the shift box on, the 58 parts will work in the 55 with a V8 and the different trans cover levers
a 283 would be best IMO, but any small block will work about the same, just some might need aftermarket side mounts used ... good move scooping the shroud, they're hens teeth
