I will second that. The two manifolds should be bolted together loosely and tightened after mounting. I use two of the interior bolt positions to hold the gasket in place. After some of the other bolts are started, I remove them and mount the real hardware. The thing to look for is to make sure the locating rings don't get hung up. They should not provide any resistance when mounting the manifold.
