The oldtime method involved using a solenoid from an early Mopar starter motor to pull the latch linkage, the kind that bolted onto the starter housing. It would be possible to modify the mounting for a newer-style GM solenoid, since the older Chrysler Corp. ones with the 4-bolt mounting system are just about impossible to find now. You'll also need a small coil spring mounted somewhere between the door frame and the body to pop the door open an inch or so when the solenoid gets triggered. It used to be necessary to have a hidden push button somewhere like inside a wheel well or behind a bumper, etc. to activate the solenoids, but now there's a big selection of remote controls to choose from to operate a control relay.
