I bought a chevy crate engine for my 63 chevy 1/2 ton pick-up. I know from previous experience that to set initial timing for first start-up to align TDC on #1 cylinder and with valve cover removed on drivers side, watch that both valves are closed and making sure that dist. is to fire on #1...I guess what I'm stumbling on was I seem to remember that after the two valves on #1 are closed you continue to rotate the engine one more revolution. {All this is being done with plugs out and by hand]. Correction of any errors would be appreciated.
BTW...What brought me to this web-site a few years back was my new to me 1955 first-series 1/2 ton. Still 235, 6 volt, starter on the floor and a daily driver.
Thanks
Bob
