thought i would throw this out here, as i get ready for my motor, and for anyone else who wants to know. there was a large post related to what oil to use in our older motors ( sorry couldn't locate it). the big discussion was the zinc/phosphorus levels in the oil and the fact that our older engines need these.
was at the NHRA supernational in englishtown and got to talking w/ a valvoline rep, as well as talking on the phone w/ a tech advisor this morning. The summary of the conversation is that any racing specific motor oil will have the z/p levels we are looking for. it makes sense that racing engines require the wear resistance, as well as the bigger issue of not being concerned w/ catalytic converter damage.
i can only speak for the valvoline products (which i use in all my vehicles) there VR1 racing oil, conventional and synthetic, would be a good oil for our motors. it has detergent levels that work well and even for a racing oil affords a conventional 3 mos 3,000 mi. oil change. The reps explained that the "not legal for street use" oils are for higher horsepowers, have very low detergent, and only have a 500 mi oil change recommendation.
so that is my $.02 on oil for those who are interested. i do not work for, or am not promoting Valvoline products. The info and the link are for informational purposes only. The link will take you to the Valvoline racing oil info page. Hope all of this is ok with everyone on the site.
