I think it is called a battery isolator. I had one on my 84 pickup to power my cabover camper. All you need is another batter the isolater and a place to mount the extra battery. The way it works is as you drive, the alternator charges the main battery. Once it is charged then it charges the second battery. As the name indicates it also isolates the two batteries, so you always have a charged battery.
