My 70 GMC C-10 has a 350 and a THM-350. I wanted to get a manual myself, but the truck came with an auto. I know guys who only drive autos and will tell you to get an auto, I also know the guys that drive manuals in everything, and they will tell you to get a manual. It all depends on you. I like the manual, I would like to get one eventually. I'd say that with the applications specified, you could get away with the C-10 for sure. I don't know what things are like in your area, but 1/2 tons are most prevalent. If you can't find a 3/4 ton with a manual tranny, you won't find a 1/2 ton with one. The THM-350 is arguably the best auto tranny ever made.
