I threw in the towel Jerry, I just went ahead and sprung for the sway bar kit from CPP. The bar, bushings and brackets look very much like the original one, only real difference is in the links and attach point for the links. If I have time and if the angle of the bars work out I might just try to reproduce the articulating links that clamp to the I-beam like the later GM bars used.
