I hauled just the cab with no hood or fenders on the bed of my 82' S-10. I mounted it through the front mounts to a 2x6 and tied the back mounts to a 2x6 with some baling wire and set the 2x6's across the bed sides. That put it up kinda high but not to bad. It looked kinda strange but it rode just fine for about 30 miles. But that was with a Chevy not a Toyota. I also tied the crap out of it to the bed. I wish I had taken the picture. Scratching my S-10 was not an issue new scratches just add to the patina. Also leave the boards long enough for some large folks to grab on to then saw them off once you get it on the bed. lots of folks is better if just to help steady it.
