Southern yellow pine was used around here for many applications such as trailer floors and side boards for cattle trailers. The best way to treat the wood is with linseed oil and let it "cook" on a hot day. Something like stove black can be added for color. There are still some trailers around here with a serviceable floor that was installed in the 50's.
