I thought they were all chrome. Maybe the PO had emblems like mine. They are nasty looking. I have thought of painting mine. How do they look?

I don't see why you couldn't remove the paint and buff them up. Unless the chrome is bubbled and the emblem had been ground or filed. Then re-chroming is in order. Or buy some new ones.
