I don't think anything but supplied air protects you from zinc fumes. It has been over 50 years since I struck my first arc. In those days I thought I was invincible. I thought if I lived to be 30, that would be long enough. I have changed my mind about a lot of things. A lot of people my age have a miserable life because of how they abused their body. So far I am fortunate enough that I can still tinker on my jalopies. At my age I take every precaution to try to make the show last a little longer.
