I recently put in a new 20 gallon RCI fuel Cell with a 0-90 ohm sender in my '57 Burb. I took the "0-90 ohms" as a workable range for all gauges falling in that ohm range. Dummy me, that would be too easy huh? Well, in trying to locate a sender that would work, I stumbled across a possible fix for the old "90 ohm sender to a 30 ohm gas gauge dilemma". I came across this post
http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/gm-fuel-sending-unit-conversion-30-ohm-106069.html where a guy claims that you can put a 47 ohm resistor or a 50 Ohm potentiometer (which apparently is adjustable) in line from your sender to the gauge. It sounds like this will correct the ohms allowing your fuel gauge to read the level of fuel correctly. If you use the 50 Ohm potentiometer, you can adjust the gauge to read empty with several gallons of fuel in your tank which gives you the ability to set your reserve amount so you won't run out of gas. Has anyone ever heard of this or tried this? I haven't yet, but will as soon as I can locate the parts. I'll let you know how it works. Bongo
