You might want to use the rocker-arm assembly that came with the head you will be using (wait to hear if anyone has comments on oil reaching the rocker arm assembly).

The 1954 and 1958 mechanical lifters are not the same - you should not use the 54 lifters in a 58 block (I do not know if the opposite is a non-no).

Some people have posted that the 1958 cam provides better performance that the cam used in 1954 235s (but, they will interchange). The 1958 head can be used on the 1954 block and is a higher compression head.

The water pump is another obvious difference between the two-years' engines.
