I might have steered you wrong..not the first time I did this though. The book indicates bolt spacing on a 216 CI is 2 5/8" and the spacing on a 235 CI is 2 15/16". This is out of rat tail file territory I think. I don't know if any jetting would be smaller on the 216 engine as opposed to the larger 235. I thought I had seen a post from carbking earlier indicating the cubic inch difference had to be greater than that before the carburetor was re-jetted. If the carburetor fits, or can be made to fit easily, it won't cost you anything to try it.
