Yeah my light is old style too. I plugged the vac at carb and with the vac advance base set at about 5 degrees retard, I set the pointer on the BB then I advance the base to 8 degrees advanced. I have good acceleration and so far no pinging so I guess I'll just keep experimenting. One of these days I'll spring for one of them fancy timing lights myself, just have to figure out how to use it then!
