Just to add.....make sure that the clutch disc slides back past the end of the splines on the T5 input shaft. This is a common problem when installing the t5 on a 235 in an AD truck. Can't speak for the 230 but imagine if you shortened the input shaft as well as the T.O. bearing retainer shaft you might be experiencing the same issues with the disc not sliding to the rear enough to disengage.

I can't say that the Astro pp wouldn't work....before I took it down, I'd extend my clutch rod a little. As long as the clutch disengages and you've got free play adjustment in the pedal I don't see why it wouldn't work. You might get lucky!
