My lifters rattled fairly good using Pennzoil 10W-30, and I changed to Shell Rotella T 10W-40 and it helped a lot with that. If you need an additive, use Lucas Oil Stabilizer. Its roughly $7 for a quart bottle, and I felt like it did a good job when used with the Rotella T.
