No problem. You'll get better gas mileage with the lockup working, as it eliminates the 10% slippage that all torque converters have, but running unlocked doesn't do any damage. While you're pulling parts, get the vacuum switch off the firewall, and the plug that goes to it. It's a round black item with a vacuum line on one side and a 2-wire plug on the other. That's all you need, along with the plug that goes into the transmission, to make the lockup work. No computer hookup on the early ones!
