My 49 3 speed trany is leaking from the shift lever entrances. I purchased "seal shift fork" part number 591660-48-55 from Chevy of the 40's. These are different from the original cork seals. They are rubber with springs. They don't fit as tight as the original. Do the springs act help seal with pressure rather than filling the entire space as the originals or did I just get the wrong seals from Chevy of the 40's? If so is does the spring go in or out? Any Trany people, please help.
