Hi - new guy here - I found an original '58 chevy. Almost completely untouched. Been parked in a heated garage for the past 15 years or so.
I have not yet made the purchase as I am waiting for the cash from the sale of my 70 el camino. Deposit made, waiting for his tax return.
Anyway - in investigating the 58 the owner was able to get the engine turning over & despite the terpintine in the gas tank it ran for a few seconds with starting fluid.
My question for the group is this - The rear main seal leaked like crazy even though it was not running but for a few seconds. Can the rear main seal be replaced with the engine in the truck?
The owner said I could do this by dropping the pan, removing the rear bearing cap & tapping the seal out.
What do you think? I've never done that before.
