Sorry if that remark was offensive, but it seemed the message wasn't getting through. The reason there's a slip yoke is so the driveshaft can change length as the rear end travels through its arc set by the length of the springs. On the oldtime closed driveline, the spring perches had hinges built into them to allow the same type of motion.
