I've got the bottom end of my 228 put together, but I've got a question about the oil pickup. I know where it installs on the pump, but is there any kind of seal that holds it in place tightly or is it supposed to be fit loosely. It looks like there's some kind of pin, probably a split pin, to hold the pickup onto the pump.
Also, what are the tin parts that sit on top of the main bearing journals? Can they be left off? They appear to be some sort of "bridge" or something, not really sure. How similar is the 228 to the 235?
As always, any help is appreciated. I'll probably have more questions soon.
