The late-model 250's, and I believe, 292's also, had a 6-cylinder HEI distributor. There are two types, one with the coil in the distributor cap like a V-8, and another one that uses a remotely-mounted coil. It takes a very slight amount of modification to the housing to make sure the oil pump drive works right, but the drive gear, etc., is a direct swap with the stovebolt distributor. There's no point in spending an outrageous amount of money for somebody else's distributor when the salvage yards have ones that can be made to work easily.
Someome posted a way to make a MOPAR electronic trigger fit a regular stovebolt distributor housing. That one looked very interesting, and the modification would be totally hidden. I'm in the process of researching that possibility. The trigger and amplifier assemblies don't know what kind of engine they're on, so why not do a little experimenting?
