These weight summaries can sometimes be misleading or confusing as there can be inconsistencies in the attached parts, as mentioned above. Most of the engine weight listed by Chevrolet for the 216 and early (pre 1955?) usually include the bellhousing, clutch, and flywheel; the later engine weights do not include those parts. That probably explains the 70 to 85 lb difference between the 261 and 216 in the list of weights. While I was assembling a 261 a couple of years ago I made a pretty good effort to weigh all of the parts as I went along, shown in this link.
