As long as the height of the filter element is correct, 1/2" of diameter won't make any difference. If the filter element seals properly at the top and bottom, the oil has to pass through the filter media, and a slightly shorter distance between the inner and outer folds of the element material won't affect how well, or how long it filters. Use either one!

Jerry, I called the WIX company & asked them if I have the old filter with the part number on it why I can't seem to get a replacement the same size. He could not tell me but said the same thing you told me. As long as the filter fits in the center it will not matter if it is 1/2 inch smaller in diameter. I will find out tomorrow night. I am going to try to fire her up for the first time. drive
