The Fenton intake extends further from the block than some other intakes (like the Offenhauser) and I also could not mount a filter on the manifold. In my case, a 1960 261, the filter is a full-flow set-up that can be relocated using a remote oil filter mounting/head.
Other people who have used a remote mounting/head in a by-pass system might post how they plumbed it (I think a restrictor is needed).
Regarding the linkage, where are you having a problem? From the pedal to the bell-crank (pivot) on the block, or from the bell-crank to the carb-linkage mechanism? You might want to post a picture or two of your linkage (there are different styles).
