I'm one more voice for DOT 5. I'm doing a frame off on my '49 1.5-ton (no brake booster). I used regular steel lines (clear coated them after I bent them) all now wheel cylinders and master cylinder. That was 4 years ago. Truck has 1.3 miles on it since. No leaks, no losses, pedal is as firm today as it was after we bled the lines and adjusted the shoes 4 years ago.

I also used DOT 5 on my '39 frame off 15 years ago. No issues then, either.

If there's a problem with DOT 5, I haven't experienced it.
