My truck has seen its share of heavy loads, look in my webshots and youtube for the evidence. Its a '66 C-10, and has crossed the scales at work with 1700 lbs of gravel in the back, and now that I have sideboards on it, I regularly stack firewood halfway up the boards. If you watch the video called "Loaded" on my youtube page, my girlfriend was kind enough to video me starting and stopping at a stop sign with close to 2000 lbs of softball-sized rocks in the back.
Worst thing I've ever hauled is my grandpaw's 7' by 16' tandem axle trailer with his '87 John Deere 750 and a 5' bushhog on it. I felt like I was going to push the brake pedal through the floor trying to get that blasted thing to slow down.
One thing I learned from him pulling the same trailer and tractor in his '71 C-10 was to take it easy and leave several hundred yards ahead of you, and when the load is exceptionally large (read sitting on the bump-stops) don't go too fast and listen to the engine, she'll tell you what she likes.
