The injectors trigger from the "crank" signal from the ignition module. Is it getting spark, and do the injectors spray during cranking? If so, it's working like it's supposed to. If it was squirting gas before you crank the engine it would flood. Try a 12 volt test light, to the "tach" terminal of the distributor cap. It should flash rapidly when the engine is cranked. If not, you've either got a bad module or pickup coil in the distributor. In that case, there will also be no spark, along with no spray.
