A center bearing isn't needed on a short wheel base. However if the slip joint is in the center bearing, you will need a slip joint. However, there is nothing wrong with using a center bearing. The shorter the shafts, the stronger and least vibration. You might want to use the front half and shorten the back half. You will of course have to have a cross member. I would install the transmission, measure from center to center, and pack up the drive shaft you have and ask Charlie at Driveshafts Unlimited for his suggestion.
