In IN, we have Power Train place that will rebuild any trans, rear or driveshafts from bigger trucks. I have asked about the 420 there myself. Local yard guy says the main gear clusters in 4spds can be $400 or more for new one. I would bet new bearings, seals, gaskets would be all you would need and you could do that yourself. Sometimes the first/reverse gears are bad as they are straight cut and no synchros and get "ground" when shifted into. I think Power Train is a national or at least Midwest company. Go to truck stops and pick-up some of the free books/catalogs in the Lounge area. They have shops and repair places listed in them from all over country.
