There should be 2 wires, one is dark green, the other is pink. The green wire (L) goes to the sender, pink (R) to the ignition switch. However, a '55 should still have a mechanical temp guage, not electric. Electric was a running change in '56, std on V8, I have seen 6 cylinders both ways.
